“Taking care of Lenn is easier and faster with the Handi-Move hoist”
Julie Declercq, mother of Lenn Van Gysel (9 years old), october 2020
Julie Declerq and her husband Pieter Van Gysel live with their infant son Lenn in Oostakker, East Flanders (Belgium). 9-year-old Lenn has ‘Spina Bifida’; he was born with it. Lenn is therefore in a wheelchair. During the day he stays at the institution ‘Ten Dries’, in the evenings and weekends his parents take care of him.
Julie and Pieter have adapted their home to Lenn's needs. Thanks to the Handi-Move lifting system, the transfers to and from the wheelchair, bed, raised bathtub, drive-in shower and care table are a lot smoother and more ergonomic than when lifting Lenn manually.
Handi-Move: "Our own team installed the latest lifting solution with the so-called 'traverse rail system + connector'. This makes the bathroom fully accessible for transfers and there is a connecting monorail to the bed in the bedroom. Thus, one ceiling motor can still be used in both rooms."
Julie Declercq: "We use two slings (body support system), one standard sling in full fabric for dry transfers and one in mesh fabric as a bath lift sling. Lenn is comfortable in both. His nursing is a lot easier and faster now."
Remodeling advice
"We already knew Handi-Move's quality and reliability from when we lived in our previous house. However, we couldn't adjust that to suit Lenn, and so we moved. The Handi-Move advisor helped us with remodeling advice and determining the rail route."
"We are very satisfied with this lifting solution from Handi-Move. Their service is excellent and human.”
